Earthquake Early Warning
Although reliable prediction of earthquakes is not feasible at present, some forms of mitigation strategies can be put in place if the arrival of damaging seismic shaking can be known in advance. Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) systems can provide such information and are vital technologies for emergency preparedness and reducing the secondary hazards of earthquakes (for example, risk of fire). We work closely with our clients to understand their needs and provide consultation on application of EEW systems to ensure public safety, infrastructure and network resilience, and business continuity. Our solutions include:
- Design of seismic networks utilizing seismic sensors suitable for minimum-latency, real-time data acquisition and transmission.
- Design and implementation of EEW algorithms from seismic phase detection to event association.
- Implement decision making algorithms for alert notification.
- Generation of real-time, dynamic maps showing ground motion and shaking intensity values.
